Think of “Home and Garden” as a “Tale of Two Cities” played out on two different stages, each within view of the audience. The two plays created by the genius in Alan Ayckbourn run simultaneously in two theaters, the Miracle Theatre’s 300-seat Balcony theatre and adjacent 100-seat Black Box theatre.
One a comedy, the other a face, both plays capture the interest and imagination of all present. House is set in an English country home while Garden is set in a perfectly manicured garden. The story unfolds as Teddy Platt is visualizing the next step in his career.
Meanwhile his wife sits oblivious to his presence. In the meantime, the garden is being prepped for a large party.
In a simply astounding manner, the actors synchronize their movements in such a way that they can be part of both plays simultaneously by scurry from one stay to the other. They play to two audiences at the same time.
A cast of local favorites including Carbonell Award winner Gary Marachek as Teddy Platt, Sandy Ives as Trish Platt, and Katie Amadeo as their daughter Sally Platt are praised by audiences during each performance.
In addition, Heath Kelts plays Giles Mace, Carbonell Award winner Laura Turnbull plays his wife Joanna Mace and John Bixler plays Jake Mace. Bob Rogerson plays novelist Gavin Ryng-Mayne while Ken Clement plays caterer Barry Love and Deborah Sherman plays Lindy Love. The Artistic Director is David Arisco and the Executive Producing Director is Barbara S. Stein.
It is recommended that you purchase tickets to both performances at once because your curiosity will be peaked to know what is going on in the other stage.
