The Byron Carlyle Theater originally opened in December 1968 as twin cinemas hosting first-run movies in the heart of North Beach, northern section of the City of Miami Beach. In the mid-1970s, the theater was re-developed into a multiplex cinema and continued to operate until it was sold by its owner, Wometco Enterprises, when the City of Miami Beach purchased it in 2002 for $1.7 million. The Byron Carlyle Theater now begins a new life as an exquisite performing arts jewel located in the heart of North Beach. This intimate and cozy venue is now the perfect location to host dance, theater, music, film lectures, and meetings. First year presenters include the Black Door Dance, Cultural Affairs - Miami-Dade College, Dance Now! Ensemble, Florida Dance Association, Gold Coast Theater Company, Maximum Dance Company, Miami Light Project, Momentum Dance Company, NOTB Productions, South Beach Gay Men’s Chorus, and Tigertail Productions.
