A tale of one family's holiday to Miami, Florida

We're an American family living in London, England. Our home is in a suburb area of London known as Surbiton in the borough of Kingston-Upon-Thames. We moved here about four years ago for work reasons and while we enjoy the city and its amazing history and people, we find it necessary to venture out every once and a while. See, London is cloudy more than sunny and for a family that came from sunny Southern California, London weather can be...well, depressing. We find that a trip to Spain--only a couple of hours by airplane--normally helps us get our fill of sun for a few months, but we decided that in 2009 we'd visit a more remote location--Miami, Florida!

Miami offers a number of appealing options for families (besides sunny weather) and since we have a 6 year old boy and 9 year old girl, we need appealing family options. Beaches and pools are a plus but the really great options are the many shopping areas and amazing attractions such as Metro Zoo. Thanks to MiamiKids.net, we were able to download their Miami for Families travel guide ebook and read up on cool things to do in Miami with the kids.

I've always wanted to swim with dolphins and chose the program at Miami Seaquarium called Dolphin Encounter. It was simply amazing! The kids were a little scared so they didn't jump in but watched from land. We spent an entire day at Metro zoo--the kids loved it and left with plenty of pictures and tales for their friends back home.

We visited Key Biscayne as we have a friend who lives there. The place is fantastic--lush green visitation to die for and gorgeous neighborhoods. We rented some bikes at Key Biscayne Bicycle Rentals and took a tour of the island: what a fun time and the kids got to do a little exercise as well.

Back in Miami we checked out the major sites like Little Havana, Coral Castle, South Beach, Espanola Way, and Bal Harbour.

In the end, we'd recommend Miami for a family vacation anytime: the kids will have a blast and of course, mom and dad will too!
