collection to expand knowledge and appreciation of art both regionally and
nationally;
Enhances the appreciation of the permanent collection through borrowed and
organized traveling exhibitions and loans of individual works; and
Supports, extends and enriches the mission of the University of Miami for
students, faculty, scholars, residents, and visitors to South Florida to
appreciate and more fully comprehend art and its history.
ANTIQUITIES
The Lowe is the only area museum which owns a distinguished collection of
Egyptian, Greek, and Roman antiquities. This collection is a vital thread in
understanding the development of Western Art and is utilized by University of
Miami and area art history and history courses.
In the renovated museum, the installation has been greatly enlarged as the first
introductory gallery in the permanent exhibition space and serves as a lead into
the Kress Collection of Renaissance and Baroque art. The antiquities exhibition
will be augmented with a loan of five classical and antiquities objects from the
J. Paul Getty Museum.
