Amazon & Beyond Exhibit Amazon & Beyond is open daily, 9:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Immerse yourself in Central and South American sounds and colors at this wonderful new exhibit at Miami Metrozoo. Amazon & Beyond is comprised of 27-acres and features 100 astonishing species, with 600 new animals. You and your family will embark on an amazing journey among giant river otters that can grow to be six-feet long; jaguars, the largest cats in the western hemisphere; harpy eagles with talons the size of grizzly bear claws; an anaconda, the mightiest snake on earth, and many other fascinating creatures of the tropics. Amazon & Beyond is divided into three areas that surround the central Village Plaza: the Cloud Forest, Amazon Forest and Atlantic Forest.
Quetzal's World Quetzal's World is performed on weekends and holidays at 11:15 a.m. and 1:15 p.m. at Amazon and Beyond's main stage, for weekday show times are subject to change. With an original script, Quetzal's World begins with a costumed storyteller who plays the role of the Quetzal, a resplendent, near-threatened bird that has been revered as sacred by the Aztecs and Mayans for centuries, and admired as a symbol of beauty and freedom. The audience is transported to a magical time and place through stories and songs where an ecological mystery has occurred. By helping to solve the mystery, audience members learn about tropical American ecology and animal adaptations.
Meet Nickelodeon's Favorite Animal Scientist, Diego, and Friends Meet Diego at Amazon & Beyond's Village Plaza at 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. during the week and at 11:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. on weekends. This is a unique opportunity for you to bring the little ones to meet Diego. This up close and personal experience is sure to make this an unforgettable visit for that special child in your life.
The American Bankers Family Aviary, Wings of Asia Wings of Asia, our free-flight aviary, is open daily from 10:00 a.m. -5:00 p.m. You will encounter rare and exotic Asian birds up close. You may also witness them building their nests and caring for their young. Observe our daily bird feedings at 10:30 a.m. & 2:30 p.m. Follow the bird keepers for fun and information while they go throughout the aviary feeding the birds. Experience our indoor activities from 9:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Observe ducks swimming above and below the water with fish and turtles through the viewing glass of the indoor, air-conditioned Observation Center. Step out behind two waterfalls to see the aviary from a duck's eye view, and learn how you can participate in local conservation efforts in the Potamkin Conservation Center. Encounter dinosaurs from 9:30 a.m. -5:00 p.m. View a film showing the link between dinosaurs and birds at the Field Research Center, then search for the skeleton of a 40-foot-long carnivorous dinosaur in a mock fossil excavation dig pit.
Dr. Wilde's World of Discovery Dr. Wilde's World is open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Have a close encounter of the wild kind! Check out cool reptiles in our African hut encounter area. Be amazed by Florida Atlantic saltwater predators in our 7 ft. tall, 500 gallon aquarium. Don't forget to stop by the ever popular "bee" room and look at a live working bee-hive where you can see thousands of honeybees safely behind a glass enclosure. Examine unique and authentic artifacts from indigenous cultures of Africa, Central and South America.
Toadstool! Toadstool! is located at The Mercantil Commercebank Children's Zoo and is open 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. It features close encounters with small animals that live in naturalistic habitats. Toadstool is a place for fun, observation, learning, and is sure to delight the entire family. You can observe poison dart frogs in ferocious battles, watch blind cave fish as they swim without bumping into each other, see Emperor scorpions and meet a large Burmese python! You can ask questions and share your experiences with animals with your Toadstool guide. Come visit us; we are certain you will enjoy it!
Humpy's Camel Rides Humpy's is located at The Mercantil Commercebank Children's Zoo and is open daily from 11:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. High a top a graceful camel, riders experience the traditional form of transportation used by the desert people of Africa and Asia for thousands of years. Meet one of two trained dromedary camels and take a ride for $5.
The Samburu Giraffe Feeding Station The giraffe feeding station is open daily from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. For $2, you will get to feed our giraffes delicious veggie treats like romaine or iceberg lettuce, kale or collard greens. Visitors have the opportunity to walk up a custom built ramp that leads to an elevated platform overlooking the giraffe exhibit. Visitors can view a giraffe's 14-inch long tongue as it gently takes food out of their hands while getting a close look at what many consider the most beautiful eyelashes in nature!
Pelican Feedings Pelican Feedings are available daily at 10:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Come join us by the Gift Shop and help us feed them. Cup O' Fish: $1.00.
Guided Segway Tours Explore the zoo the fun way on a Segway! You can choose your adventure from an African tour, and Asian tour or both. For more information call 786-525-7127.
Behind-the-Scenes Keeper Tours During the Behind-the-Scenes Keeper Tours a zookeeper will take you face-to-face with exotic animals in off-exhibit areas. During a one and one-half hour visit, you will have personal encounters with wildlife that you won't soon forget. Zookeepers reveal fascinating animal facts and answer your questions. There are several tour itineraries to choose from: birds, mammals or general. For more information or to make reservations call the Group Sales Department at 305-251-0400.
The Wildlife Show at the Amphitheater At the Wildlife Show you will see a wide variety of animals demonstrate natural behaviors that will amaze and inspire you. From the incredible mimicking ability of parrots to the powerful elegance of a cheetah, the Wildlife Show is education through entertainment. Experienced wildlife trainers will dispel many of the myths and misconceptions concerning wildlife while providing a unique view into their fascinating world. See and learn about the animals up close! Shows take place daily at 12:00 p.m., 2:00 p.m., and 4:30 p.m.
Z.S.I (Zoo Scene Investigations) Z.S.I. at the Mercantil Commercebank Children's Zoo Theatre will help you solve animal mysteries. These presentations often feature local wildlife, and provide opportunities to touch and learn. Presentations take place daily at 11:30 a,m., 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.
